QINETIQ MEET LIB DEM BUSINESS TEAM FOR TALKS IN WESTMINSTER

Richard Burt Contacts between QinetiQ bosses and the Liberal Democrat Shadow Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) team have taken place for the first time in Westminster.

The meeting was set up by Local Liberal Democrat parliamentary candidate, Richard Burt following his recent tour of the Malvern site.

"QinetiQ is the major employer in Malvern and is at the cutting edge of business innovation and communications technologies," said Richard.

"The principal focus of discussion was the importance of innovation to the British economy and the key role it will play in leading the country out of recession.

"QinetiQ invests a huge amount in innovative new products each year and recognises the importance of Britain encouraging business to innovate to remain competitive in the global economy.

"Despite our obvious strengths, there was agreement that many ideas originally developed in this country gradually move overseas in pursuit of the necessary support to turn innovation into commercial success; and that more should be done to encourage development here to help businesses in the UK.

"The Lib Dem team agreed to undertake some further research into the role of the Technology Strategy Board, introduced in 2007 to promote innovation, to press for sufficient resources to meet its aims so that Britain emerges in a strong and enhanced position once the global recovery begins.

"The success of QinetiQ is vital to the economic future of Malvern and to the surrounding area. I was delighted to be able to facilitate contact between QinetiQ and our parliamentary team to help get more benefit from home grown business innovation," added Richard.
