Solihull's MP, Lorely Burt has signed amendments to a Parliamentary Bill to tighten control on party political donations from overseas and non-domiciled donors.
"The proposed changes to the Political Parties and Elections Bill, now being debated in Westminster, aim to clean up anomalies that allow overseas residents to use UK companies as a vehicle to channel funds towards political activities," said Lorely.
"People who are not registered in the UK for the purposes of income tax should not be able to donate huge amounts of money to any political party in an attempt skew the outcome of a future election. Neither should non-doms have any right to influence domestic politics in this way.
"A series of amendments by colleagues including Nick Clegg and Vince Cable would ensure that anyone who is not eligible to donate is also barred from donating through any UK based company in which they own 75% or more of voting shares."
