Mobile phone giant O2 have today told Lorely Burt MP that they will not proceed with plans to erect a mast at the Richmond House Hotel in Richmond Road.
The decision came following a meeting of nearly 100 angry residents at St Margaret's School last week.
Lorely Burt, who chaired the meeting, welcomed the news and said:
"O2 have informed me of their decision not to proceed with the proposed plan to site the mast at Richmond House Hotel. They were unaware that this site was to be redeveloped for residential housing, so as it is their policy not to site masts on top of people's homes they are not proceeding.
"They have, however, indicated that they will be looking for a less populated site in the near vicinity. I will keep local residents informed as soon as their plans become public."
